Felony Alcohol Intervention Program

Felony Alcohol Intervention Program

An Experienced Tarrant County Felony DWI Defense Attorney

The Felony Alcohol Intervention Project (FAIP) is part of Tarrant County’s DWI court program. In essence, the program is for defendants who have been convicted of three or more DWIs. It is designed to increase public safety by giving multiple DWI offenders the tools they need to achieve and maintain a sober lifestyle.

This is not a diversion program, which means that successful completion of the program will not help you avoid conviction.

There are enormous benefits nonetheless, including:

  • Only four years of probation instead of 10
  • Only 10 days in jail, not four to six months
  • Lower probation fees
  • Expedited access to treatment, which is also offered at a lower cost
  • A sober, happier and healthier life

If you would like to talk about the Felony Alcohol Intervention Project with a defense lawyer who knows how this program works and what it takes to gain acceptance, call or contact the Bedford, Texas, law office of David E. Cook.

Basic Eligibility Requirements

First, you have to be fully committed to getting and staying sober. Without it, nothing else will work. Beyond this threshold requirement, the program also requires participants to satisfy each of the following conditions: 17 years old or older; a legal U.S. resident residing in Tarrant County; charged with a felony DWI; not currently on parole or probation; no pending possession or unlawful possession of firearms cases; and no prior convictions for certain types of violent or sexually motivated offenses.
