Helping Your Own Cause
An Experienced Criminal Defense Lawyer Representing Individuals in Tarrant County and North Texas
Once you have been arrested and charged with a crime, certain things are beyond your control. You can’t make the prosecutor drop the charges. You can’t make the state make you a good plea offer. You can’t make the judge decide anything one way or another.
What you can control is how you conduct yourself from this point forward.
At the Bedford, Texas, law office of attorney David E. Cook, we have been representing Fort Worth and Tarrant County clients in criminal cases for 15 years. We have handled a wide variety of both felony and misdemeanor charges over the years, and we have been successful at getting people the results they need time and time again.
With that said, here are few important pieces of advice for helping your own cause:
- Be completely honest with our attorney at all times. The truth may not be easy to talk about, but it is absolutely critical for us to know the whole truth, or we will have little chance to effectively defend you.
- Do what our attorney asks you to do. Whether the advice involves talking about the case, getting a substance abuse evaluation done, enrolling in an anger management class, not contacting certain people, making restitution to a victim or something else — remember that you wouldn’t be asked if it wasn’t important.
- Attend every court hearing scheduled in connection with your case, unless Mr. Cook has told you specifically that you don’t have to be there. Also, it is very important to be on time for court hearings and for any appointments you have to speak with our attorney.
- Be on your best behavior. Nothing will make your situation worse or make it harder to defend you than if you get into trouble with the law again before the charges you’re currently facing are resolved.
